What makes a city liveable? Implications for next-generation infrastructure services

Joanne Leach, Susan Lee, Peter Braithwaite, Chris Bouch, Nick Grayson and Chris Rogers have been selected to submit a paper for the 2013 International Symposium for Next Generation Infrastructure (ISNGI).

ISNGI is an initiative of the SMART Infrastructure Facility at the University of Wollongong, Australia with partners University College London and Arizona State University and co-host partners the University of Oxford and Delft University of Technology.

This symposium is designed to explore two challenges:
1. What is required to design, develop and carry through the effective provision of Infrastructure to sustain the development of modern society?
2. Given that infrastructure is not an 'engineering artefact' but an 'agent of change', is it possible to imagine infrastructure systems that can meet the needs of twice today's population with half today's resources while providing twice the liveability? (Factor 8)?
